Art in the Evening Lecture and Reception - Purchase Tickets

Thursday, April 13, 2017 • 6:30 PM

Speaker: Nuvi Mehta, San Diego Symphony Special Project Director

Lecture: "The Power of Images + Music: When Works of Art Connect "

Artists Jacques Callot, Francisco Goya and George Bellows created searing images of war.  Similarly, composers Dmitri Shostakovich and Gustav Mahler produced symphonies influenced by their own experiences with brutality.

In this lecture, San Diego Symphony Special Project Director Nuvi Mehta will discuss how two forms of art – visual and musical – can invoke dynamic emotions when brought together.  Mehta will offer in-depth perspective on the soundscape he choreographed for the Timken’s exhibition Witness to War and the role music plays in our lives.

Widely considered one of the finest speakers on classical music, Nuvi Mehta has a gift for capturing hearts and minds and his talents have led him to conducting appearances around the world.  Mehta is a graduate of The Juilliard School and Indiana University.
