Art in the Evening

Image for Art in the Evening

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED!

We are sad to say that Jean Stern has canceled his visit to San Diego this Sunday to give the lecture for art in the evening. He is sick.

"Art and Art Collecting: A Personal Perspective"
Speaker: Mr. Jean Stern, Senior Curator of California Impressionism,
The Institute and Museum of California Art, University of California,
Irvine.

A Connoisseur is defined as a person who is especially competent to
pass critical judgments in art, particularly the visual arts. This
the lecture will introduce people to the basic aspects of art collecting,
specifically in looking at, examining, and assessing art from a
collector’s point of view.

Jean Stern is Senior Curator of California Impressionism at the
Institute and Museum of California Art, University of California,
Irvine, and is a nationally recognized authority on California
Impressionism. He is also Director Emeritus of The Irvine Museum. In
over twenty-eight years, first at The Irvine Museum, and now at the
Institute and Museum of California Art, he worked to establish a
national presence for California Impressionism through a noteworthy
series of books, exhibitions, lectures, articles and video
documentaries. In his career, he has presented over 250 lectures and
judged and juried more than 100 local, national and international art
competitions. In 2017, Mr. Stern received the prestigious Chevalier of
the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Ministry of Culture. He
has also been presented with three Lifetime Achievement Awards: by the
Laguna Plein Air Painters Association in 2013; by the Plein Air
Painters of America in 2014; and by Plein Air Magazine in 2014.
