Free Guest Lecture
April 3, 2017 • 10:00 AM
Speaker: Sally Yard, Professor, Art History, University of San Diego
Lecture: "The Sorrows of War: Callot, Goya, Bellows"
The Sorrows of War: Callot, Goya, Bellows will focus on the enlistment of printmaking as a means of bearing witness. Each artist created a searing group of works in response to the devastation of their own time: Callot in 1633, Goya in 1810-20, and Bellows in 1918-21. These works speak of their specific contexts and reach across time and place.
Sally Yard is an art historian and curator, who has written about art since the second world war--from Abstract Expressionism in the United States to the relationship of art and its publics. Yard is professor of art history at the University of San Diego.
Location: Timken Museum of Art • Balboa Park, 1500 El Prado San Diego
