Join Timken Director John Wilson and fellow art enthusiasts for a study day to the J. Paul Getty Museum to view two amazing exhibitions with the curators who created them -­‐ Florence at the Dawn of the Renaissance and Disegno: Drawing in Europe, 1520–1600.

Florence at the Dawn of the Renaissance is a major international loan exhibition that brings together rare panel paintings, manuscripts, sculpture and stained glass to tell the story of how the artists of one city brought about the birth of the Renaissance. Included in the show are seven breathtaking paintings by Giotto, the largest number ever assembled in the U.S., as well as extraordinary works by his Florentine contemporaries. Among the highlights are the earliest illuminated copies of Dante Alighieri's masterpiece the Divine Comedy, and nearly all the surviving leaves from the most important illuminated manuscript commission of the early 1300s, the Laudario of Sant'Agnese.

Complimenting this exhibition is Disegno: Drawing in Europe, 1520–1600 featuring rare drawings by Italian, French, and Netherlandish artists from the Getty’s permanent collection, including major new acquisitions, and works on loan from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The dynamic display highlights the emerging artistic style of the late Renaissance, and Mannerism characterized by contorted, elongated forms and dramatically animated compositions. Master drawings by Pontormo, Parmigianino, Bronzino and Vasari, among others, are featured.
