Love is in the air… an evening for Romantics

A landscape, a soundscape to take you to another time, another place.

About the Event
The evening will include the music of Antonin Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, also known as “American Quartet” and the art of the Timken’s exhibition Romantic Impulse in the American Landscape Tradition, 19th to 21st Century.

Written in 1893 and coinciding with the American Romantic era in art, Dvořák’s String Quartet—along with his New World Symphony became a model for American classical style for years to come. The String Quartet, which Dvořák wrote while on vacation in Spillville, Iowa, home to a Czech immigrant community, remains one of the most popular works in chamber music repertoire today.

Nuvi Mehta, San Diego Symphony’s concert commentator will delight the audience with a fascinating discussion prior to the evening’s performance, then take on the role of violinist when he joins members of the San Diego Symphony to perform the String Quartet and other selections: Chi-Yuan Chen, principal viola, Xian Zhuo, viola and Zou Yu, violin.
