Whether you are interested in a docent-led tour, self guided group visit or audio tours, we offer many ways to explore the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
Group Visits and Guided Tours
We offer free gallery tours designed to introduce visitors of all ages — from K-12 students and college groups to adult audiences — to the Timken Collection.
Guided tours last about 45 minutes and are offered Wednesday through Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., subject to guide availability.
Tours accommodate up to 50 guests, with groups of 25 or fewer for a more intimate experience.
All group visits must be scheduled in advance. Please allow at least 2 weeks’ notice for guided tours and 1 weeks' notice for self-guided visits.

Guided Adult Tour
Guided School Group Tour (Grades K-12 and College)

School tours invite students to explore and interpret art from different time periods through observation and discussion, promoting critical thinking and active engagement. Tours can be tailored to meet the unique interests and needs of each group.
Self-Guided Group Visit
FREE
Reserve a time slot in advance to explore the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions on your own. This ensures no other large groups are touring the museum at the same time.
ASL Tours
FREE
Every first Saturday of the month, the Timken offers FREE ASL-Enhanced Museum Tours, allowing visitors to experience the Museum's world-renowned collection of Old Masters, American art, and Russian icons in American Sign Language (ASL). Led by knowledgeable docents and accompanied by ASL student interpreters from Palomar College, the tours highlight the art's rich history and fascinating stories. Everyone is welcome, including ASL students - no reservation required.
