Join us for a conversation with Director of Curatorial Affairs, Derrick Cartwright, Ph.D. and artist, Tatiana Ortiz-Rubio as they discuss the Timken’s summer exhibition In Blue Time on view July 19 - September 29, 2024.
Tatiana Ortiz-Rubio will be the fifth artist to participate in the Timken’s popular summer exhibition program. Known for her monumental wall drawings, her work has been exhibited at the Centro Cultural de Tijuana, Bread & Salt, and the La Jolla Athenaeum, among other venues. Her ambitious project at the Timken will begin in the Dutch/Flemish Gallery as Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s 16th-century panel painting,The Parable of the Sower, provides the inspiration for her new, site-specific work. She will also produce another large drawing in the museum’s temporary Exhibitions Gallery. Ortiz-Rubio will be on-site at the museum in June, producing new work and engaging in dialogue with the public. A site-specific installation of her creations will take place in July and August. The public is invited to meet and watch this dynamic artist as the creative process for In Blue Time unfolds and comes to life. Join us for this event and get a sneak-peek of Ortiz-Rubio’s installation at the culmination of her residency.
