Teaching Resilience Through Art
This FREE professional development program explores the theme Teaching Resilience: How Art Helps Us Navigate Hard Times. This program invites teachers to pause, step into the quiet of the Timken galleries, and consider how works of art can support reflection, connection, and resilience - for both students and educators.
Through docent-led discussions and a lesson plan overview, educators will explore how engaging with art can help students process challenging emotions, build empathy, strengthen communication skills, and recognize collective strength in times of difficulty. Teachers will leave with practical strategies and a classroom-ready lesson plan that integrates visual thinking and discussion-based learning.
All attendees are invited to enjoy wine and light appetizers, connect with fellow educators, and explore the Timken collection after-hours. Title I schools will receive free bus transportation to the Timken for classroom field trips, and teachers from Title I schools will be eligible to apply for a free classroom visit from a Timken teaching artist (art supplies included).
