Albrecht Dürer was one of the most influential artists of the Northern Renaissance, celebrated for his mastery of engraving, woodcut, painting, and drawing. Working in Germany while engaging deeply with Italian Renaissance ideals of realism, proportion, and human expression, he united meticulous observation of nature with mathematical precision and humanist thought. He broke new ground across media, producing some of the earliest self-portraits, pioneering lifelike studies of animals, and creating landscape drawings of unprecedented realism.
In this docent-led talk, we'll follow Dürer’s rise to fame and explore why his work continues to resonate, offering insights into both the world he lived in and the enduring power of his art.
