A reluctant leader, mediator, and prophet, Moses is a complex figure vividly depicted in much great art, particularly during the dramatic moments of his receiving the Ten Commandments and giving them to his people. In these powerful representations artists attempt to capture the depth and complexity of his character and the pivotal role he played in shaping history. This lecture will explore the art and symbolism surrounding Moses and what these portrayals communicate about his true nature.
