Image for Virtual Talk - Gabriel Metsu: Life, Work and Influences

Gabriel Metsu is one of the most celebrated Dutch painters of the 18th and 19th centuries. From his early days in Leiden until his death in Amsterdam at the height of his career, Metsu painted a remarkable range of history paintings, portraits, still lifes, but above all, exquisite genre paintings like the Timken's Portrait of a Girl Receiving a Letter. This docent-led talk will explore the life and work of this remarkable artist who was one of the leading genre painters of his time.

Our free virtual tours allow you to step inside the museum and explore one of the greatest collections of paintings, from the comfort of your home.

We recommend you download zoom in advance. If you have any questions please contact Alexandra at ariley@timkenmuseum.org or 619-550-5955.
