It’s no surprise that, throughout history, love has been one of the most frequently and beautifully depicted subjects. After all, what could be more romantic than attempting to capture on canvas a feeling that is both elusive and universal? Tender embraces. Passionate outbursts. Stolen kisses. For centuries, artists have represented the dramatic, mind-altering effects of love. This docent-led virtual talk will explore the many facets of love as portrayed in painting— from fleeting to timeless, tragic to tender, sensual to adoring. We’ll celebrate romance through the works of Rembrandt, Fragonard, Klimt, and others.
