What can be said about the historical crucifixion of Jesus compared to the diverse ways artists have portrayed his death throughout history? From dramatic depictions of suffering to more symbolic interpretations, each artwork reflects different cultural, theological, and emotional perspectives. This virtual talk will explore some of the artistic variations of the crucifixion and discuss how these portrayals shape our understanding of this pivotal moment. This virtual talk is led by Timken docent Dr. Florence Gillman (Professor Emerita of Biblical Studies at the University of San Diego).
Note that you will be muted upon entry and that this talk is being recorded as well as live-streamed. Please save all questions for the end.
