Virtual Talk - The Jewish Princess Dancing at the Timken

Image for Virtual Talk - The Jewish Princess Dancing at the Timken

An intriguing dancing princess from the time of the ancient Jewish King Herod graces one of the Timken’s galleries. Painted by American artist Ella Ferris Pell, Princess Salome appears pensive and deeply troubled. What has happened to this young girl? Shouldn’t dancing and happiness go together? Join this virtual docent-led talk to explore her tragic historical story and her enduring presence in art history, led by Timken Docent and USD Professor of Biblical Studies Dr. Florence Gillman.

Note that you will be muted upon entry and that this talk is being recorded as well as live-streamed. Please save all questions for the end.
