Virtual Tour: Art and Photography

Image for Virtual Tour: Art and Photography

This docent-led talk will explore the relationship between art and photography. Works from the Timken collection will be discussed and connections will be drawn to photographs from the 20th century by important photographers like Dorothea Lange, Nicholas Nixon and others. Since photography was invented in the early 19th century, one of its functions was recording things that would have previously been recorded through drawing, etching, sketching or painting. Photographs and paintings are similar in that they can both capture moments in time but they are both able to manipulate their subjects as well, which has become more apparent and prominent in modern day photography. Our free virtual tours allow you to step inside the museum and explore one of the greatest collections of paintings, from the comfort of your home.

We recommend you download zoom in advance. If you have any questions please contact Alexandra at ariley@timkenmuseum.org or 619-550-5955.
