Object Lessons: Goya’s Self-Portrait with Dr. Arrieta

Francisco de Goya’s Self-Portrait with Dr. Arrieta, of 1820, was the second in a series of major loans to the Timken Museum of Art in 2012. On loan from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Goya’s Self-Portrait with Dr. Arrieta is one of the artist's masterpieces. The painting was showcased alongside the Timken's own revolutionary-era masterpiece Cooper Penrose, of 1802, by Jacques-Louis David, which is a landmark portrait of the Irish Republican sympathizer.
