Musical Masterpieces

Join us in the Central Gallery for our newest program, Musical Masterpieces, a FREE piano performance series combining music with art to enhance the viewing experience, providing opportunities for uniquely talented musicians to bring their music to the public. The series complements the Museum's existing Music & Masters events and curated soundtracks that accompany exhibitions by the San Diego Symphony's Nuvi Mehta.

Musical Masterpieces concerts take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and select Sundays. For more information, please call (619) 239-5548.

Leslie Miller

Performs Fridays & Saturdays

Leslie Miller, blind since birth, is a gifted musician who discovered her talent for playing the piano at a young age. She grew up in Southern California surrounded by music as the daughter of accomplished musician, Frank Miller. Leslie's heightened sense of sound led her to copy songs from the radio on the family piano. Over the years Leslie has built a diverse repertoire thanks to her incredible ability to play by ear. Leslie's journey as a blind musician showcases her passion for music and unique ability to connect with listeners via her remarkable talent.

Kristin Silver

Performs the second Sunday of each month

Kristin Silver is a talented pianist who has an infectious and optimistic view on life. In encouraging others to pursue their dreams she states, "Of course you can... don't give up on what you are doing". Despite being blind since birth and unable to read music, Kristin has pursued her love for music and passion in performing for others, using an extraordinary talent for playing music by ear. She currently plays in multiple bands including Jazz Hands and the Steely Dan tribute band, Steely Band. Kristin's favorite composer is Beethoven, and her favorite musician is Glen Miller.

Serafin Gimutao

Performs the third Sunday of each month

Serafin Gimutao is 15 years old and a sophomore at Eastlake High School. In 2019 he started playing piano when he started to gain interest in classical music. His favorite composers are Chopin, Bach, Rachmaninov and Scriabin. Serafin believes classical music ultimately expresses many strong and complex emotions and hopes his listeners feel these emotions while listening to his performances. In his spare time he also plays the violin in his school's orchestra and plays soccer for the Rebels Club.

Devin Chavez-Levins

Performs the fourth Sunday of each month

Devin Chavez-Levins, a sophomore at San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, started his piano studies at the age of 5, under the guidance of Ms. Natalya Panchenko. He loves to play music of the Romantic era, especially works by composer Frédéric Chopin. Devin also plays guitar and bass at the School of Rock and front ensemble at SDSCA.
